Neben einer Serie von aktuellen Zeichnungen werden wir das neue Buch
„Homo Viator“ des Slowakischen Künstlers Svätopluk Mikyta präsentieren.
Seit 19 Jahren sucht Mikyta nach Büchern in Antiquariaten, auf Basaren
und auf Flohmärkten in Mitteleuropa. Anschließend schneidet er
Abbildungen daraus aus, übermalt Texte, radiert Teile der Bilder weg,
fügt visuelle Informationen mit einem Grafi tstift dazu und verändert
somit den Ursprung des Bildes. Dieses erste Buch der dreiteiligen
„Mikyta“ Buchserie dokumentiert die Leidenschaft des Künstlers, diese
gesammelten Druckerzeugnisse als Ausgangsmaterial zu nehmen, um sie
anschließend zu überarbeiten und in eine neue eigenständige Arbeit zu
transformieren.
In seiner Veröffentlichung kehren wieder mehr als 150 Reproduktionen
seiner Arbeiten, die zwischen 1997 und heute entstanden sind, so
wirklichkeitsgetreu wie möglich (mit der Originalgröße und der
Originalposition) in die Buchform zurück. Einer der begleitenden Texte
von Jan Zálesák, beschreibt Mikytas Reise, beginnend mit Stuttgart, wo
er seine Studien durchgeführt hat, weiter über seine Aufenthalte in
Berlin und Prag bis über die Rückkehr in das Slowakische Dorf.

Homo Viator is a reconstruction of 5 books which have, over the last 20 years, been subjected to rigorously artistic deconstruction by the Slovak visual artist Svätopluk Mikyta. Hundreds of over-drawings, after being taken out of books, exhibited, scattered into private and public collections, are now returned into the form of a book, as faithfully as possible (original size and position).

For the past 19 years Svätopluk Mikyta has been foraging for books in the antiquity stores, bazaars and fl ea markets of Central Europe.

He subsequently tears out the reproductions within them, smears paint over text, erases parts of the images and adds new visual information using a graphite pencil.
All of this is done to alter the ’source code’ of the imagery. The first book from the ’MIKYTA’ series is titled ’Homo Viator’. It documents the artist’s obsession with the polygraphic print as a source material. In this publication a more than 150 reproductions of his work, made between the year 1997 and the present, will find their way back into book form. An accompanying essay by Jan Zálešák follows Mikyta’s journey starting in Stuttgart, where he conducted his studies, through his stay in Berlin and Prague to his return to the Slovak village – a base from which he continues to visit various European capitals, where he regularly exhibits.
